During halftime at yesterday’s Monday Night Football game, Phil Mickelson tried to earn $1 million for First Book, a nonprofit that provides books to needy children. To accomplish this, he needed to hit a golf ball from one end zone, and have the ball land within 5 feet of a target 100 yards away at the opposite end zone. While he missed the million dollar shot, going long, he still earned $50,000 from his sponsor KPMG.
To date, KPMG’s Family for Literacy program has donated over 2 million books to kids in local communities throughout the United States. Phil’s $50,000 golf shot will purchase around 20,000 books, which isn’t bad!
To join Phil and KPMG in the battle against illiteracy, you can purchase a blue hat identical to the one Mickelson wears on tour. For every authentic blue tour hat sold, First Book will be able to provide three new books to children from low income families.
