San Diego’s Mayor Jerry Sanders and Comic-Con International announced on Monday that the popular convention will be held at the San Diego Convention Center through 2016, a one year extension of the current contract.
The expansion of the waterfront convention center has recently received important approvals. Construction is slated to begin next year. This development is critical to Comic-Con, which continues to grow every year, and now requires the entire convention facilities.
Comic-Con has become an international phenomenon and a major boost for San Diego’s economy. Each year it attracts about 130,000 fans of comic books, television, movies, video games and popular culture, generating about $180 million for local businesses.
This is very good news for San Diego’s business community.
